Hello, all,

I have a KX7-333 motherboard wth an Athlon 2600+ CPU (I'm not a gamer, so
it's more than sufficient for my needs.) I currently have 512M of PC2700
RAM, a pair of 256M. I'd like to increase the memory to 1 or 1.5 gig.
Is that possible without replacing my current chips? In other words, can
I just add one or two 512M sticks to the current setup?

http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/products.php?categories=1&model=31
DDR333
Supports up to 2GB of un-buffered DDR200/266/333 and 3.5GB of
registered DDR200/266

So, if you have open dimm slots(s) and particularly if you get 1st
quality name-brand memory, I don't see any problem.

You were perhaps worried about compatibility, old vs new mem?
Buy only supportable/returnable modules.

Yes.

Thanks. So adding either one or two 512M sticks will work. Good to know.

Is there any brand of memory you'd recommend?

I always use the cheapest I can find that will suit my needs. Since you

already have 2 sticks, you want something with the same timings if
possible. You may have to manually set the ram to slower timings if they
don't all work together at default SPD speeds.

What's the difference between unbuffered and registered? Is there any way
to tell what I currently have without opening the case and looking at the
memory chips?

Compatibility was a a concern, yes.

Well, we tried a 1 gig stick of Sanyo PC3200 memory. The computer didn't
boot with that stick combined with my two 256M, nor by itself. Took it
back.
