Hi I have a L7S7A2 with an ATI Radeon 9600SE. My problem is every few
weeks I have trouble booting up my computer. I get 1 beep then 8 beeps.
According to what I read it is a Display Memory R/W Test failure
problem. If I continue pressing reset it keeps on doing it, but if I
shut down the power wait 30 seconds and power up again then everything
boots up great and everything works fine all day.
Since when it boots everything is OK could it be my video card or is my
motherboard starting to go?
TIA

That board's old enough for the CMOS battery to have gone weak. I'd start
there for any intermittent that occurs after a period of inactivity. There
have been past complaints about your particular setup:

but I assume if it's been working fine for you so far, then you're running
into some other problem.
Other things that come to mind:
1) removing and reseating the video card - the contacts may have become
filmed over or corroded or the board might have "walked" its way out of the
socket slightly.
2) checking for bulging caps. Although I think the big problem with leaky
caps had been resolved by the time that board was built, there might have
still been some in the supply chain. Not likely, but anything that triggers
the magic beeps is HW or CMOS related, IMHO.
3) make note of your settings, clear CMOS, and reprogram it. The K7S5A's I
have are notorious for getting into some cyber-pyschoneurotic frazzle and
all have had to have their CMOS cleared at one time or another to get back
to working status.

Thanks for the reply I will try your suggestions. The last two days
it's doing fine again, so I should be good for a month or two, until it
starts over again for a few days. Within a few months i might be
upgrading to socket 939 with an amd 64.
Thanks
