I am looking for a replacement motherboard for an Intel D815EEA2 / D815EPEA2
board. If I remember, in the dim and distant past, someone on this site had
an email address for a potential supplier of such equipment. If they are
still aboard I would sure appreciate the information.
I have a second computer, with the previous mb, that is used for various low
priority jobs and it is failing to recognize the presence of hard drives on
most bootups. When recognized, the system works ok so I feel rather
strongly that is where the problem is (replaced the cable and added a second
drive with no impact on the problem). Given todays market prices for new
systems I don't feel it is a good idea to rebuild (ie. replace the mb, cpu,
memory, etc.).
TIA

Tom,
Most of the Intel 815 boards I've had in the past have disappeared as system
replacements such as yours. I may still have one, probably new in box or maybe
just in excellent condition. I need to check, but I'm not available to do so
tomorrow. If I do, I will not sell it at the obscene prices charged by Skyline
and several other outfits that stock Intel parts. In the meantime, do yourself
a favor and run the manufacturer's diagnostics on the hard drive. I may talk
myself out of a sale, but if the drive has some bad spots or the drive
electronics are slowly failing, you might be better off replacing the drive...

Hi Tom,
Wondered have you had a peep at this link, hpefully clicking it will open in a new window.
http://developer.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d815eea2/lk_issues.htm
No doubt you would have checked the bios battery just in case. Only thing I can think of is to do a Google and see what results.
Only seemed yesterday I built a 'puter' using a Gigabyte board with a AMD2000+ cpu, 3 or 4 years is one heck of a long time with this technology.
Hope you get sorted.

Ben,
Thanks for the response. I took up your suggestion and replaced the hard
drive and the problem went away. Apparantly failing electronics was the
problem however, if the problem recurs I plan on a system replacement to
eliminate the whole situation.
Again, many thanks.

Makes sense. The failure rate of hard drives is much higher than the failure
rate for good quality motherboards. The mechanical parts often give out on hard
drives. Or there is a miniscule momentary head crash, rubbing off some of the
oxide coating on a drive platter. Thereafter, the inside of a drive is
contaminated and it's a matter of time before total drive failure. Motherboards
have no moving parts, except for the cooling fan mounted on the CPU, and, yes, a
cooling fan can fail with disastrous effects... Ben Myers
