I'm running AIX 5.1. I have a LTO Ultrium 2 SCSI drive. I put a new
tape in it last night for the backup. Something was wrong with the
tape and it didn't backup. This morning, it wouldn't eject. It said
it did on the screen, but the tape was still in the drive. After a few

seconds it would act like I put the tape back into the drive and
re-read it. This went on for a few tries.

Finally, I decided - screw it - and I turned off the tape drive, waited

a few seconds, and turned it back on. Then, I try pushing the button
on the front of the drive to eject the tape instead of using the
software to eject the tape. This time it ejects.

NOW - my problem is that the server thinks that the drive is busy
everytime I try to access it because I turned it off and back on while
the server was running. Is there a way to get the server to read the
tape drive again without rebooting the server? Rebooting is a last
resort that I do not want to do.

Thanks,
Dale

You could try cycling the power on the drive again. Otherwise it's

last resort time.

could you not disable the hardware and then re-enable it in device manager?
Worth a try!
