I'm running Win98 First Edition. I recently moved a WD 80GB hard drive
from a Gateway E-3200 350 MHz to another E-3200, which is configured
the same, except it's a 500 MHz. Now the boot time is a lot longer.
In fact, after recognizing the hard drive and CD-ROM, it just sits
there for a full minute with no hard drive activity apparent. Finally
the hard drive light starts flickering, and it boots up fully in the
next 30 seconds. The total boot time from hard drive recognition to
the desktop ued to be only 30-seconds before moving the hard drive.

Any ideas on where I should start looking for the cause of this delay?
The system has always run on a wired ethernet connection to a Linksys
router, using a standard PCI ethernet card.

Thanks!
Scott

Maybe it helps when you assign a fixed IP address to the ethernet card

(or remove it).
