had my girlfriends pc scrubbed and rebooted with diffrent program . was running xp home edition , now running xp pro edition . had my isp people reassure me and walk me thru dial connection. upon dial up connection error 777 appears "connection failed becuase the modem is out of order". unfortunately cannot provide modem type/manf., at this time. in properties the modem is workin fine. no conflicts or problems when diagnostic is done. phone line is fine for a phone . line is connected to pc into "Line" port . all the obvious is there . w.t.f. can someone please help this ole country boy.

The error still points to incorrect drivers, despite what you have

seen in modem properties, I assume from the control panel. Did you
check device manager? Any yellow exclamation points there?

When you wipe a machine and do a clean windows install, it is very
common for drivers to be needed for modems, especially PCI software
based modems.

Do you hear the modem dial, connect and try to handshake?

Post a modem log. Here's how to find it.

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=142730

If you need drivers, then you'll have to figure out what modem you
have. If you have no documentation or disks, then you can try Everest
and see if it tells you anything about it.

You can try Everest for free for 30 days or download the older free
version here.
