I have two CD writing drives:
1. NEC DVD_RW ND-4570A 1.02 (ATA)
2. Teac CD-W524E 24x10x40 CDRW, and 'NEC '.

I use Nero Express. I haven't burned any CDs for a long time (been
focusing on DVD) and was surprised today to find the Teac would no
longer do so. I could only burn providing I dropped the speed setting
down from 24x to 4x. Otherwise it locks up at a mere 4%, during the
'Lead In' phase. And then I have a difficult job aborting.
Occasionally had to reset my PC.

Yet, using same media, I burned OK on the NEC drive, at its default
(max) setting of 48x.

Any ideas on what may be going on here please, and what I might do
about it?

I eventually sorted this myself, by updating the TEAC's firmware. See
separate post 'TEAC W524E - wrong firmware upgrade instructions'.
