I have Paint Shop Pro on my Win95a system...200 MHz Pentium
with 96 mb RAM. I went to install Paint Shop Pro 8, but it requires
IE 5 or above (+ Win98) to install it. Do I want to put IE 5 or 6
on a Win95 machine? I suspect it would slow it down.

Thanks!
Scott.

Scott,

IE 5.5 is the last release which runs on Windows 95. It is no slower than
earlier IE releases, and no faster either... Ben Myers

Ben,

OK, maybe I'll try it. But wasn't there a problem with upgrading to
IE4 a few years ago...messing up Win95? Is that a non-issue now?

Ben,

By the way, I currently have IE 3 on this system, and I never use it,
since I'm a Netscape fan.

IE 5.5 will work without problem on Windows 95. You cannot download IE5.5
from Microsoft any longer - you might want to try here:

Be careful installing programs that require 98 on 95 systems -- you may find
the program means what it says.

Ed,

OK, thanks. You know, I didn't notice Paint Shop Pro 8 was for Win98
only. Maybe I'd better rethink that. It's just that my Win98 and XP
machines have LCD monitors, and I've always thought that CRT
monitors are more accurate, colorwise, for image editing. But, maybe
that's no longer true. I do know I need to take into allowance that
an image is brighter on an LCD screen, so I don't brighten it up as
much on my CRT monitor.

If you like Netscape, try Mozilla 1.5, the open source version of Netscape
without all the AOL frills. I only use IE when Microsoft or some other web site
forces me to use it. Which is rare, other than for Micro$oft. I suspect that
IE 3 would break which used nowadays with a modern web site... Ben

Paint Shop Pro 7 is the newest I would put on a 200 MHz system.

Ben,

I have Mozilla 1.3 on another system...but it seems to choke when
opening my hundreds of bookmarks. That's why I still rely on
Netscape 4.8 (yes, I prefer it over Netscape 7).

You're right, IE3 breaks on just about every website I try it on:)

Tim,

You know you're right. Paint Shop Pro 8 looks like a 200mb install.
It probably has a lot of overhead. I do have a 550 MHz Win98
system that might be better suited to it.
