I have an SMC 2804AWBR wireless router 802.11g that's been
very reliable. It connects 4 systems (2 wireless and 2 wired).
Today I couldn't log on. After determining it wasn't the fault of
Charter Pipeline, I noticed after Renew/Release on my Win98
system, it would bring up alternately 192.168.2.101 and an
IP starting with something like 234...., which corresponds to
Charter's IP. It would only access the internet on the 234... IP
address. It was the same on my Win XP machines. A reset
of the router didn't help. So, I Renewed/Released back to
192.168.2.101 and accessed the SMC settings via browser.
I ran through the Basic Setup again and had it save settings for
the cable modem. Then everything worked fine...and all the
systems were able to access the web on the standard 192.168...
etc. IP addresses.
Any idea why my router would start handing out 234....etc. IP
addresses, instead of the normal 192.168.2....?
Thanks!
