Okay, I got this old Gateway Astro and it does everything fine except
detect the modem, I have downloaded the drivers online but they said it
doesn't work with Windows NT 2000 professional, so am I just doomed? |

It's been a while since I poked around inside an Astro. Two suggestions:
If you can determine the chipset of the modem, you may well be able to find
Windows 2000 drivers for it elsewhere, not the Gateway web site.
You could also install a USB external modem.
Finally, upgrade the memory to the maximum possible. With Windows 2000, you
need it. Even if name brand manufacturers sell new XP and 2000 systems with
128MB, that amount of memory makes a system woefully underconfigured for a bulky
memory hog operating system... Ben Myers
