Was wondering if anyone would could suggest a good digital camera. I'm
looking for something that takes good close up pictures without being
blurry.
Thanks,
Carol

Close-up pictures of what, and how close?

Close-up pictures of what, and how close?

And how blurry?

They're all blurry compared to film.
And prints will be no better than the printer you use.
And the more pixels you have, the more storage you'll need.
You can't make a decision based only on the things you stated.

Go read some reviews at steves digicams or any of the other
zillion review sites.
I kinda like the Dimage Xt and the Optio S4.
As soon as they get below $100, I'm gonna buy one.

I've actually gotten some very nice high-resolution
detailed images of very small objects by placing
the object right on the glass of a flatbed scanner.
Sticking a piece of white paper over the object
prevents the background from being so black...

I've got an Olympus C3000-ZOOM that I paid big bucks for 3-4 years ago. Of
course, these cameras are less than half that price now. It's 3.1 megapixel
and takes great pictures. Not sure why anything greater than 3.1 is needed
after seeing these pictures. The newer models have even better zooms.
www.newegg.com carries some Olympus models I believe.

This model has something called Macro mode for pictures from 8" to 31". Not
sure if that is too close for you.

Nighttime pictures? You mean low light? This model has flash and it can be
adjusted but you'll only get a picture of what is within reach of the flash.
This camera allows a seprate flash to be used.

It sounds like you've seen low resolution pictures which weren't clear or
the camera moved when the picture was taken.

I'm willing to pay up to $350.00.

I want something that is going to take a close up picture of something
like
a flower in bloom, or a shot of people.

I would also like something that does nightime pictures.

I really just want a all around good camera that is going to be clear
pictures of things.

Total budget, or for the camera alone? Typically digital cameras come
with a tiny memory card. You'll likely want to buy a larger one ASAP.
That said, the older Olympus C-4000 can be had near that price point.
It has close focusing macro capability, with some manual control.Check
the reviews at amazon.com and epinions.com.

Also, check the Kodak EasyShare DX6340, which is newer and less
expensive, but also has close focusing and a 4x zoom. The Fujifilm
Finepix 3800 has a 6x zoom, but low light focusing may be a problem.

I have a 3x zoom and there are times that I wish it were more. The Kodak
has a 4x and can be had for under $300 and comes with a docking station,
I think. That'd give you some extra for the bigger memory card.

I bought a digital camera a few days ago. Here's how I did it:

Went to Office Max (or any store)
Looked at the size of the camera and weight. Did it feel comfortable, etc.
Price in my range? At least 3 MPs
Went home and went to www.steves-digicams.com and read his reviews of all of
the ones I liked. He gives specifications, etc. Be sure to go to Steve's
Conclusions.

The ones I liked weren't right, so I went to Best Buy and did it again.
Decided on Olympus Stylus 400 = $399. Now I see it for less on sales, but
I'm happy. I especially like that it is pretty much a point-and-shoot and
it's weatherproof - can't snorkel, but can take photos in the rain.

Happy shopping, Carol

Yup, and probably more than one card. Then there are the rechargeable
batteries (at least two sets) and the carrying case and then the card reader
for the PC. And lots of disk space to hold all the pictures you'll take.
Then there's the Photo printer, photo paper, etc.

Ew, tacky gold...
....but I like the clamshell-- rugged, easy to carry.

Maybe you can get a rebate, did you buy it after 11-15?

I will not be using photo paper for my pictures as I have found out that I
can take them into Wal-Mart and get them done in an hour, for .26 cents per
picture, in a hours time. You can put them into the machine and print, and
crop whichever pictures you want.

I have an older camera that I do that with now.
That's cheaper than buying picture paper and ink all the time.

Unless of course I need a picture right away, then I will do it on computer.

Thanks, for all the input, I'm checking out websites and checking reviews on
different ones. I need to go to Office Max and look at there cameras just
like you said in your post.

Have a Costco nearby? Nineteen cents-- but if you're paying just over a fourth
of a penny, why bother!

I have been using the Sony DSC-V1 with excellent results...my other

choice was the Canon Power Shot G5... I went with the sony for the
Night Shot and the hologram pattern focus...
Both are a pit higher priced but are very good...
Sony also offers an 8 megapixel model for about $800 to $1000.00
