Help! I'm having a problem with my Gateway Profile 4XL display, and
I'm not getting anywhere with Gateway's tech support (beyond "you'll
have to mail your system in and we'll get it back in a week" -- ha ha
ha).

When the system boots I see the Gateway splash screen but immediately
everything goes black (even if I attempt to get to BIOS by hitting F2
or F10 for boot options). Windows XP Pro sounds like its loading
properly but the display remains black. I tried attaching an external
monitor but it didn't work, probably because you must preset this
option in Control panel before an emergency occurs. Also tried
booting from the XP CD but no luck.

This first happened last Thursday, but after innumerable reboots after
talking to Gateway and hanging up on them, the system finally came up
OK. Now, after using the PC this morning without problem and shutting
down normally, I returned home and once again the problem is
recurring.

Any ideas before I throw in the towel and send the Profile to Gateway
for repair? It seems odd that I can see the Gateway splash screen
before everything goes black again.

Many thanks!

Before sending it back to Gateway why not try a Win XP repair

installation...
If you send it back Gateway will more than likely do a format/ reload
anyway...
