i've got a colleagues gateway solo here and i need to get into the BIOS.
unfortunately it looks as though at some time the password has been changed
and no one knows it ! is there a way of resetting it to a standard one
or to null.

The owner needs to call Gateway for assistance.

Gateway will then charge them $299 plus shipping to have it serviced out of
warranty for a password reset. From some of the people that used to work in
Gateway's service facilities, it apparently usually entails opening the case
and jumpering the motherboard - similar to a desktop reset, only with more
labor involved.

I have previously found untilites on the web that assist here - although not
with a gateway machine if you can't find something reply here & I'll did
around in my old files ansd see what I've got

Thanks guys i'll have a search on the net and get back to you...
bit excessive to pay gateway huge amount for such a basic thing... i just
need to make it boot off cd to update OS to XP. someone has previously
changed the boot order i think....
