|

There has been an interesting discussion on one of the anti-virus NG's
concerning people having problems with any of the Norton application
combo's that contain NAV including NAV stand-alone when doing a MS
critical update while NAV is activated. According to some messages,
it would seem that some of the critical updates and NAV use the same
files and when the critical update changes some of these "joint use"
files, NAV doesn't like it and thus goes off on its error-never to
work again mode. BUT.... If NAV was deactivated before the specific
critical update and then activated after the update has been
installed, NAV didn't have a problem with the "joint-use" files
getting changed out.
When I was using Norton Bloatware, I never had any such problems. I
never did turn NAV off before or during any MS update, critical or
suggested. And.... I never had any such problem as they have been
discussing. It also seems to be nonspecific to any specific OS or
specific update, it just seems to be happening to individuals at
random. They can't seem to find a common denominator.
Knowing that GW has NAV installed on all their new computers and has
NAV on their restoration CD's, I just thought I would throw this out
on the alt.sys.pc-clone.gateway2000 NG for discussion in case there is
really something going on with this.

Thomas
