I'm not sure what they call the "thing" that performs the mouse functions on
a laptop, that you tap and slid. I just installed windows xp and it is
working great except for one thing.

I use to be able to scoll by sliding the curser over to the right and then
slid down (scroll) by sliding the curser in the tap box (or whatever it is
call.) Another thing, I use at the far right of the box and the scroll
would page down. Now it seems to do more than jump, it pages down too far,
leaving out some text inbetween.

I know I have not explained it well, but nevertheless, this is the best I
could. Thanks for any help.

I have an early model of the 2500 (Aug 1998) and it is a very nice TouchPad,
by Synaptics as I recall. I think there was some software or driver that
controlls it or allows you to change it. (Mine won't work in combination
with a scroll mouse.)

Is the pad on the list of things not compatible with XP? If not, maybe you
can search for an updated driver from Gateway or Synaptics. They refer to it
as the "Enhanced EZ Pad" touchpad.

Anyone,

I am trying to repair my granddaughter's Solo 2500. It was powered down and closed
when as she picked it up off a carpeted floor it flipped over and landed flat on its
back. Now the screen will not display. It is completely blank. An external monitor
will not display either when connected to it. I can hear the floppy drive spin up
briefly as before and the hard drive is running. It will spin up CDs when they are
inserted. There are no error beeps heard. The thing seems like it is booting up but
not displaying. Maybe it is not booting.

I have it opened up down to where I can see the BIOS battery. Could a dead BIOS
battery cause a screen to not display? Don't think so but maybe. All the ribbon
cables appear to be seated firmly. Perhaps removing the LCD cables (easy) and then
trying the external CRT again? Any direction where to look would be appreciated.

I assume you know you have to cycle between the LCD and external monitor
using the Fn + F3 key. You cannot see the external monitor ever?
Slim chance, but perhaps someone at a Gateway store would be helpful or have
suggestions. Good luck.

Make sure you processor and memory are properly seated. I'd take them out,
and put them back in.

Seen this a too many times.
