Hi all. My Solo screen is playing up. It will only display when it is at a
50 degree angle from closed. At all other positions the image breaks up
into vertical and horizontal multicoloured lines. Previously the angle was
just under 90 degrees which was usable. However, I made the mistake of
closing the screen to remove the battery and when I opened it again the
usable angle had changed. Other than that the machine works fine, except for
the times when I'm typing and I suddenly realise the insertion point has
jumped back a few lines and I'm typing in the middle of a previous sentence.
And occasionally the hard drive password shows as 'frozen' in the BIOS...

Is it likely that a new screen would cure my main problem? It looks as
though it is connected to the motherboard by means of a plug so is
replaceable, if I could work out how the screen can be physically removed
from the main body of the laptop.

Any advice gratefully received - and preferably not replacing the machine as
it is a lot of cash to just throw out!!

I'd try reseating the video cable and if that doesn't do it - start looking
on eBay.
www.mundocorp.com or www.skyline-eng.com are also good resources for parts
for any older Gateway laptops.
Good luck.

Hi dusan

Thanks for that - do you mean that the cable between the LCD and motherboard
can be replaced? If so, how do you access the lcd end?

Presumably the replacement screen would come with dismantling/replacing
instructions?

Regards

Russell
