I intend to replace a new ide hdd(master only no slave hdd) to a branded
d/top pc
(e.g Gateway), besides swtiching the master/slave jumper
do I need to do any adjustments?

Depends if your MB will support the size of the the new drive.
Your best bet is to go the the Gateway support/forums and ask.
