Hi,

I recently received a Christmas bonus and would like to upgrade ether my
Processor or my graphic card. I can't afford both so I have to choose. My
system now is:

Asus P4B 533
P4 2 Gig
512 DDR Ram
80 Gig Hardrive
Geforce 3 64

I play quite a few games as well as Graphic Apps. I'm thinking upgrading my
Processor to a P4 3.06 533 or Graphics card to a Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB
or a GeForce FX5900-LX 128MB.

Thanks

Depends what type of games you play but one w/o the other will not raise
your overall games performance greatly. A 2ghz P4 powering a Radeon 9800 Pro
really would not do it justice by that I mean there will be people with much
faster perhaps overclocked CPU and cheap as chips graphics cards such as
Ti4200 picked up s/h getting higher performance.

The money is probably best spend on a new gfx card as CPUs can be
overclocked (although Im not saying yours is a prime overclocker or that
your board is) you can also overclock graphics cards but you can`t buy a
card for £ 100 and overclock to give exactly the performance of the £ 200
card well not as is often easily the case with overclocking CPU.

What I would do is look into getting a cheap overclockable CPU perhaps a
celeron ? and o/c to 3ghz + if poss for as little as poss and also get the
gfx card. I have a XP 1700 running at 2ghz which cost £ 35 6 months ago and
a Ti4200 clocked higher then default Ti4400 s/h costing £ 65 6 months ago
and my overclocked £ 100 stable system gets me approx 12000 3D Mark 2001se.

There`s people who are quite happily running expensive Radeon 9800 £ 200 in
an old 1.2ghz system only scoring a little higher then that and they paid £
200 just for the gfx card.

Well, $2,500.00 of my bonus did make it to my bank account. I think I know
how to save.
