Hey,
Have successfully built my first machine with KN1SLI. Would like to
start playing around with the tuning of the system, but all the
warnings about viodiung the warranty, yadda, yadda, scare me,
especially because I'm so new at this, so I hope to get a bit of
guidance here, and also pose some specific questions --- some of which
are . . .
1.) The Mobo box itself proclaims that it's powered by nTune (an app I
had to download, by the way, because I couldn't find it in the discs
that came with the box). However, the app itself says a bucnch of stuff
in the opener threatening dire consequences if one uses it . . . e.g.
voiding warranties etc, if you dont know how to use it (which I
don't!!!). The nVidia site doesn't really help with detailed
instructions on how to walk you through every potential minefiled. How
can I safely navigate use of this app so I can learn?
2.) One example of such a minefield, is the very first warning that
popped up after startup of nTune:
"Warning: Your PCI clock is currently set to track the HT bus. If you
adjust the clock for the HT bus, the PCI bus clock will change as well.
Please consult your motherboard manual to determine how to disable this
behavior before proceeding. NVIDIA is not responsible for data loss or
hardware damage resulting from ignoring this warning message."
I downloaded the manual so I could do a search of all the text in pdf
format. The trem HT shows up only 3 times, and no correlation to PCI is
given. What the hell do I do??
Thanks in advance! |

Most new motherboards have a setting to lock the PCI and AGP bus speed so |
that increasing FSB does not raise PCI bus clock. You do not want to change
PCI clock too much as will cause devices to quit working. When I overclock I
do it in CMOS setup and not nTune. I raise FSB until problem then back off.
Problem like memory error, windows crashing in 3D games or no sound. Then
experiment with RAM timings and run http://www.memtest.org/ to check. Be
sure you never get an error. If you ever go too far the big risk is your
computer will not boot up. You will have to move jumper on CMOS battery to
re-set. |
