I changed the ram in a XC Cube EZ482 machine that has win2003 installed
and now that machine will no longer boot. The ram should be compatible,
but win2003 was installed when that pc had one 1g stick, now it has two
identical 512mb sticks.
The memory that fails is Kingston ValueRAM 512MB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM
Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) System Memory
Part Number KVR400X64C3A/512
The aopen barebones that I started with is the XC Cube EZ482:

Bios memory test seems ok. I've tried both sticks, and each singly. I
don't think it can be bad memory though, as they run fine in other pcs,
and both sticks make the pc fail in the same manner.
The pc fails to boot in all cases in the same manner: post test ok, then
see cursor in upper left hand corner, reboots, post test ok, then can
run up to the point where I see the windows logo, then blanks out
completely. If the orig ram for this server is reinstalled, it boots
fine. I was wondering if it might be win2003 related, that it
can't tolerate a mem change like this. |
