Hi there!
I bought a new hd and move my old to a second channel in my k7s5a pro rev 5.0 motherboard.
Then, I got a error on first boot all the time.

My configurations are:
K7S5A PRO Rev: 5.0 Elitegroup
768 MB Ram DDR (one stick 266 and another one 400 (512MB))
HD Seagate U Series 40810 ST340810A Ultra ATA/100 set to Pri Master
HD WD200EB-00BHF0 IDE 20GB set to Sec Master
On the Seagate web site, the default CHS for ST340810A are:
16,383 cyl, 16 heads, 63 sectors = 8,455,200,780
and from Western Digital Web site the default CHS for second hd are:
Cylinders 16383 , Heads 16, Sectors/Track 63, Landing Zone 16383, WPC 16383
The Jumper Setting are OK for both drivers (CD/RW too).
After 30 s I got that error message. Then, I cast the reset button and, it detects the Pri Master, Pri Slave and after 30 s it, finaly, detects the Sec Master.
I see that the CHS auto detected is wrong.

What I need to do for set the correct CHS settings?

Your drive Type should be set to AUTO, drive Mode should be set to LBA,
just as your new hard drive is. I would not recommend setting custom
CHS parameters.
According to the user manual, if you press F3 while in CMOS Setup, the
BIOS will detect and auto configure the hard drives. |

Are you sure? When mixing drives from different manufacturers you can run
into all sorts of conflicts, even if the jumpers are set in a way that seems
correct. It's gotten worse with the adoption of the "cable select" standard
that now allows for jumpers to be set to even more configurations than
before.
I would disconnect all drives *except* the one giving you trouble. If it
autodetects correctly in that mode, in all likelihood it's a very low-level
conflict between drives. How you'll sort that out depends on your
configuration. Sometimes, I've found the only way to resolve it is to
acquire a secondary IDE controller card and hook the new drive up to that
instead of dealing with the conflicts that occur trying to run them from the
same motherboard IDE channel.

The lengthy delay points to an arbitration conflict.

That's another symptom that the controller is not correctly communicating
with drive in question. That could be a symptom of a bad cable, too. The
80 conductor IDE cables are a lot more fragile than their older, 40 pin
counterparts. Inspect the cable at any folds, especially at the edges and
make sure the connectors are tightly clamped to the ribbon cable.

Another symptom that you're unable to communicate correctly with the drive.
Try it again with only the troublemaking drive connected to the
motherboard - unhook everything else from the IDE channels.

Try using cable select, if your HD positioning permits this. WD
drives seem to like CS versus master/slave jumpering, from what I've
read. Also, setup the BIOS to use Auto detection.

This thread has encouraged me to spent $15 for a SIIG IDE-133 from Newegg.
I have a lot of removable driver drawers in a lot of machines that get
switched around. One drive per channel seems to make everything work, no
matter what the jumper settings are. It's heavenly! Plus, the NFORCE3-A's
got two more SATA ports. I hope I can get machine to boot from them, even
though they are labelled IDE 2 and 3.
