First of all we need to determine if the computer is ok and that it is the monitor at fault, have you tried a different monitor on the computer, this would be a logical thing to do to confirm one or the other, or indeed try a different computer on the monitor.

You say the computer is working and the monitor is 'black', so we need to ask further question's here, is there any signs of power to the monitor, does the monitor use an external power unit if so is it ok..?

One cause may be that the back-light or it's dc-dc inverter may be duff, the inverter converts about 12V DC into a higher voltage around 2KV (2,000V) for the back-lights to light the display.

These are similar to the common flouresecnt tubes we all know about, but slightly different in operation, these tubes are known as CCFL, Cold Cathode Flourescent Lamp unlike normal flouresecnt tubes these are designed to produce a 'pure white light'.

Having said all that, it could quite easily be something entirely simpler like a bad connector a broken lead etc, as you can see we need to determine one or the other or need further clues on the monitor.
