I was stupid enough to buy the Linksys camera without reading up the
requirements. Has nobody worked out how to use this as an ordinary webcam or
does mine have to sit and gather dust? Thanks for any advice.

You really need to provide more info on what your issues are with
the cam before any info or ideas can be provided. |

My issues were that I wanted to use it as a webcam on my own website but it
seems the only way I can use it is to subscribe to the Sololink service for
which I must pay.

My apologies. I thought there was just the one camera WVC54G. It is wireless
linked and has been referred to similarly in this group before.

Not necessarily, but if you want to access remotely without Sololink
you will probably need a static IP address and port forwarding enabled
on your router. (That's how I access mine).

With out any info on what linksys cam you bought and how it's
manual says it is to operate, then not much help can be given. Is
it USB, wired network, wireless, etc? |

My issues were that it can't be used as a webcam at all. At least I haven't
been able to do so. And as you say I would need a static IP address. My
router Netgear DG834G already has port forwarding enabled

I looked at the user's manual and don't like the fact that the
cam apparently uses and active-x control to get a video feed. You
probably can use the free dynamic IP service from
http://www.no-ip.com/ instead of the poorly rated Sololink
service. It should be fairly easy to set up and use, much like a
web cam that is connected to a computer. |

i have comcast cable but the assigned dynamic ip address rarely
changes so i used that IP address and port forwarding on my router.
every now and then when it quits working i just check and use the new
IP address. happens very seldom so i find that procedure a easier than
using a dynamic IP service

Have you been successful in setting up the SoloLInk DDNS Service?
We have the camera setup and can view images with the included viewer
but can't access the images on the internet. |
