|
|
I just got myself a new chassis, motherboard (ECS K8T890-A) and an
Athlon X2 plus 2GB of dual-channel DDR memory. I setup the new system
stripping everything else that I needed from my old computer, including
a hard drive running Windows XP.
When I turn on the machine, however, Windows fails to load and the
computer reboots. The second time around, the boot options came up and
I chose safe mode. I see some system components load and then, once
again, the system reboots. I've tried the other safe mode options, last
known good config, etc and everything failed. I tried leaving only my
primary HDD connected (I also have CD, DVD, and another HDD) and still
the same problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions for troubleshooting this problem?
Thanks. |

Was your 'old system' a similar VIA chipset? If not, you can't just
swap in an old hard drive containing a Windows configuration that was
installed on entirely different hardware, anymore. Unlike Windows 9x,
Windows XP uses an NT-based HAL that will not boot if it finds major
hardware changes.
Search the Microsoft KB for how to perform an in-place upgrade
(re-installation) of Windows XP. |

Also check for a BIOS update. The latest BIOS is 051220 with a release
date of 12.28.2005. |

If it fails to load in safe mode - your problem is almost a certainly |
that the power supply is bad ( overloaded low output) or something
related to the power supply. You will not detect the problem with a
meter or anything like that. Sounds like you have systematically
eliminated everything else. You don't say what video card. Best
suggestion I have is to substitute the power supply. You should check C:
for errors since your system has rebooted it's self many times and
sometimes this causes errors on the hard drive |

| This motherboard does NOT support dual core processors. Also if your
| lucky enough to have an AGP card that works with this board it will
| only run it with the same performanceas a pci video card. The
| Information that ECS supply about their AGP-E is very misleading.
| Bottom line- ECS k8t890A=JUNK
|
Ha, no wonder Fry's is giving the mobo away with a CPU purchase.

Where do you get your information? ECS CPU support chart for this
model confirms support for X2 dual core processors and nobody has
reported otherwise that is actually using X2 with this motherboard from
the thousands of combos sold by Outpost alone.
ECS K8T890-A shipped with the new revision of K8T890 NB that fixed dual
core incompatibility of the first revision. |

Cleary, you are correct on this.
I don't know what his beef is. |
