Hi,

Power supply has gone in my computer. I found one in another computer but it
is 240w, where as old one was 230w. Will I be alright to use this? I'm
worried I might blow my motherboard or something.

Thanks

Pete

The wattage rating is simply what the power supply is capable of at

it's maximum. It does not mean it will force more current into your MB.
Just make sure the voltages generated are the same and the connectors
are identical where they attach to the MB. It will be OK.

Yes. It is fairly easy to swap a P/S. A higher wattage just means
that it is capable of delivering more power. I'd probably steer away
from cheaply-built power supplies, though.

A 240 Watt power supply is very small by today's standards. I would get at
Least a 300 Watt name brand PSU.

computer case ? Did you connect the computer case power switch cable to the
motherboard PANEL header ? An ATX supply won't run until the motherboard
sends the signal to start, and for that you need to use the power switch
that connects to the motherboard PANEL header.
tried shorting the pins and the switch

thanks for the detailed responses chaps
