|
|
Hi,
Since a little while ago, I started to have problems reading cds that were
not burned with the cd-rw drive (optorite cd-rw cw4002 bundled with Nero
burning rom 5.5.10.56). It is now to the point where I can barely read those
cds. I have no problems reading those burned with the above (cd-r/rw). I
might now have an occasional warning when accessing a cd-rw (previous cd ...
save data and burn new one?).
I tried reading the faulty cds with another cd-rw at my disposal, and had no
problems reading them). I also cleaned the lens with no apparent
improvement.
Are they the symptoms of a failing one? I neglected software and firmware
upgrades, any likely chance that this would be the cause?
Any suggestions?
Regards

I had a "failed" drive that appeared to function mechanically and showed |
no problems in My Computer - properties, but failed to detect any
content on a good disk; it was like putting a blank cdr in. Cured by
removing the drive from My Computer - properties and allowing windows to
re-detect it at next boot. |

Thanks Peter,
I gave it a try as per your suggestion, and did not worked. If I remember
correctly, I went much further sometime ago!
I gave it a last try, by using the win startup diskett. It has minimal dos
drivers to read a cd. Same thing, it only reads those I burned with the
given cd drive.
I have already installed a new software (freeware CDBurnXP pro 3) on another
drive I had. Preliminarily looks fine, except that the software does not
seem to be able to use a rw as a large diskett, but the work around is fine
to me for what my needs are!
Thanks again.
