Hi there,
We have a K7SOM+ V5.2A motherboard. It's very slow, mainly due to the
onboard graphics, and so I am trying to add a PCI graphics card. The
card I have purchased is only a GeFoprce 6200, nothing amazing, but I'm
having difficulty getting it to work. THis appears to be because of the
onboard graphics - it won't disable correctly.
I have tried changing the following
options within the BIOS:
- Set Share Memory Size in Advanced Setup to Disabled
- Set the Primary Graphics Adapter to PCI in PCI / Plug and Play Setup
- Allocate IRQ to VGA: Yes
However, the onboard graphics still show up in Windows and cause a
conflict
with the PCI GeForce card I have purchased. I have tried updating the
BIOS
to the latest version listed on ECS website but that didn't make a
difference.
I have also tried disabling the onboard graphics within Windows Device
Manager. Is there a jumper I can change that would have the desired
effect?
The actual problem is that I although I do get a display through the
new graphics card, when Windows loads the screen goes dead with just a
flashing curser. If I use NVidias latest GeForce drivers (rather than
the ones from the disc) then windows will load but as soon as I do
something that, say, involves DirectX (like running a DirectX test) the
machine freezes.
Any ideas? Or don't PCI graphics cards work on these mobos? Seems weird
if you can't do a basic upgrade like that :(
Cheers!
Stu.
