My 2xMP2400 Tyan Tiger MPX 2466-4M cannot be booted up. It freezes
with a cursor blinking right after the device detection screen
(hd,cdrom,mouse...etc.) and it just stuck there. So it doesn't give
any specific warning at all : no blue screen, no hard-disk failure,
nothing!!! Rebooted many times and powering down the entire thing many
times but no help. I can get to BIOS but nothing other than that.
Hard-disk and other things all looks normal to BIOS.

Last night I was running some batch job using VirtualDub for video and
did click on 'shutdown after done' option. The program was writing to
a partition (not C) and it could be filled up but that shouldn't cause
this problem.

Any suggestion? What else should I look at?

Is it possible that the CPU are 'dead'? Last little while I keep
hearing unusual fan noise during start-up.... but it goes away after
couple minutes.

With symptoms like this... it all points to hardware but I'm not sure
which component. I am leaning toward CPU or RAM. How do I tell if
either is 'dead'?

How long have you let stay on the black screen? Give it 2-3 minutes.
This started on my machine a couple months ago, and now every time I
restart my PC it stays on that black screen for a couple of minutes and
then continues on to a successful boot. If it's not that, then
disconnect all USB devices and make sure the keyboard connection is
connected securely.

clean your coolers , exchange the fans and it could be fine again . it
looks like a thermal problem to me .

i had problems with tiger s2460 that looked like hardware. after trouble
shooting for a few days, i relented and called microsoft. it seemed to have
started after a service pack install. got to tech level 2 when he asked if
the bios was up to date. i thought it was, i was running 1.03 but there was
a 1.05.

flashed the bios upgrade and all of the problems went away. you might try
this.
