Hi
I have just rebuilt my computer with this board and a Athlon 64 3200+. I
finally got it to boot after trying various combinations of memory. With two
sticks of corsair 256 3200 memory in slots 1 and 2 it finally booted and I
installed windows XP without any trouble. I then installed the nvidia
drivers and the computer went completely mad. It became totally unstable and
I was only able to get it to boot at random.
The error messages I was receiving indicated that the system was unstable
because I was using a 20 pin connector instead of a 24.
I bought a new 400 watt power supply today with a 24 pin connector and now
the computer wont boot at all and is just giving out continuous long beeps.
I am at the end of my tether with this system. I am now on the third
motherboard and an outlay of over £300 with a net result of *** all.
I think I will simply have to buy a new computer and forget this self build
lark altogether.

And miss out on all this challenging fun? That's what Do It Yourself
is all about! Finding the problem, conquering it, and learning many
valuable lessons in the process (along with losing some hair).
You can't throw in the towel at least until you've had three builds
this troublesome. In fact, I seem to recall my first three builds were
this troublesome. lol! |

Hi
I finally got it to boot again using a generic memory stick. It turned out
that the AMD chip was one of the newest one's with E4 stepping so I flashed
the bios to 1.1a. The system is running now but freezes at random. I think I
need some better quality memory to make it run smoothly(more expense).
Your right! It is a challenge but maybe my nerves are getting too frayed to
take much more of this.
Cheers
Paul

And why did you not start over and NOT install the nvidia drivers?
You should have used the default XP drivers. |

I too had memory compatability issues when I assembled my NF4-A939. I
tried using Ultra from TigerDirect and got nothing...not even a beep. I
put Kingston value ram in it and haven't had a memory related problem
since. Unfortunately I am having other problems that are as of yet
unresolved. After 7 months of flawless performance the onboard infrared
device stopped working. I found that it has an I/O range conflict with
one of the motherboard resources. I also found additional I/O range
availability issues involving the NF4 PCI system management.
I disabled the IR/serial port in the BIOS resolving the motherboard
resource issue but the PCI issue remains. XP defalt drivers did nothing
nor did the newest version or any other version NF4 drivers...i tried
them all...lol...then reluctantly I flashed the BIOS with the 1.1e
version. Still nothing. This one really has me at a disadvantage...i'm
not sure where to turn now...lol.
This is the first of...10+...ECS motherboard based computers i've built
in the last 2 years that has given me any kind of grief. The part that
really sucks is that it's my PC not one I built for someone...lucky I
guess...lol.
Anyone seen this before?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanx
