Hello all
Thanx for you kind assistance in advance.
I have an extra hard drive on my Dell 8400 XP home machine. I is formatted
in 4 partitions. I have cleaned up & emptied one of the partitions ( call it
Drive E ) in perperation for reusing it for a different function. There is
one file left on Drive E called c3122670bfe7524781515c6bc
It contains 4 files
Common
Sp1
Sp2
xpsp1hfm.exe
The 1st 3 files are empty ( or so reports my computer ), but I receive an
"Access Denied Error" if I try to open, move, copy or delete them. I understand
this file has something to do with the service packs but I dont know why its
on this drive. My OS is on Drive C . Although, I was using this drive ( Drive
E ) to run programs from but never the OS.
My question now is are these files required somewhere ? I am able to delete
them ( Im sure they will delete on reboot ) but before I do I want to make
sure they are not needed. If they are needed how do I go about copying them
to the drive with my OS ?
Again thanx |

looks like that folder was left over and not deleted following a windows or
manual update
i've seen that before; you install a patch/service pack and it creates a
long temporary directory when extracting the files
it's ok to delete

You may read the INF form of the file. It comes with the Windows
installation, stop worrying about it. Windows comes with default support
for many pieces of hardware to support "Plug and Play", otherwise the
user would have to manually load drivers themselves before they could
use anything connected to the PC.

Thank you Bob. What kind of file is it or what is it for?

Can anyboby tell me if the file icam4usb.PNf is preinstalled in Windows XP,
or is it a file that you would have to install to be there?
