ECS tech finally got it through to me that there is a hardware issue --you
can't have a primary IDE and a SATA? so i disabled the primary channel and
it found the SATA drive "0' Master right away - no need to use the f6 option
during setup ect. thanks for the help

Glad you got it straightened out, but you did say in your original post that it
also didn't work " by itself with primsary and secondary IDE channels disabled
and SATA only". Hmmm.

but i quess that you physically need to undo the primary IDE cable???
