Does the motherboard identify the drive during POST? Are you
attempting to install an OS on the SATA drive, or add it to an existing
setup with an OS already installed? In the BIOS where your IDE and
SATA settings are, what are the available options for the setting named
SATA Mode? |

I'm not too keen on the difference between the SATA Only, Enhanced, and
Combined modes. However, Plextor has a motherboard compatibility test
matrix. In the 'comment' section for several motherboards using Intel
ICH5 South Bridge, it states the device works OK "When connected to the
SecondaryMaster", which implies it does not work when connected to the
Primary Channel. So maybe there is a hardware or BIOS limitation using
an IDE drive on Primary Channel in an addition to an SATA drive.
No mention of this in the user manual from ECS and I'm afraid I have no
other guidance to offer. |
