Well not to my knowledge here in the UK, the very first one's here was the ultra-sonics that used to send the cats ballistic and dogs barking mad.
TV's consisted of 'vacuum tubes', transistors began to appear in the low power stages, RF, IF & signal processing stages in the mid 60's followed by IC's, then transistor line output (sweep output), frame (verticle) output stages and power supply stages by the late 60's.
One or two early videos had a 'hard wired' remote, a remote unit the connected by a long lead.
The early day's of radio, guess in the 40's saw a 'primitive remote' control tuning and volume from another room again by long wire's, using motors and relay's etc.

Yep, I remember those corded VCR controls too. It's quite convenient if you think about it - you go "and where is this remote again?!!" - pull the cord - bingo, here it is! Try doing it with the regular IR remote!

wow, ultrasonic remote... pretty clever idea as the IR sensors wasn't available at that time. The most wired remote i saw in my life was the mechanical one, made of pegs and strings
Anyway, back to 50s, this one is my favorite - 1956 Zenith "Flash-matic" Remote Control

| I just found one of those Zenith Flash-Matic remotes at a yard sale. I though it was a cool flashlight for my son. Is it worth anything, before I give it to him? |
