Oh, if you're interested in the thread with references on how Macs have
long been cheaper than PCs, try here:

Subject: Virtual PC, PearPC, OrangePC, Intel, AMD, CardBus, Mighty
Mouse, iPod, Powerbook infinity?

Can you seriously turn down AMD for Intel? Are you aware how much
Intel, like Windows, has been a scam of money over power that has
irreversibly harmed the world both in our resources and our image?
<http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.mac.advocacy/browse_frm/thread/a9bb79a036518a11/3c6655d3d46f31a6?q=%22threatens+to+Kill+Google%22&rnum=1#3c6655d3d46f31a6>
And the Mighty Mouse was completely unnecessary. In the eBay forum I
argued that Macs have long supported at least 16 kinds of clicks by the
keyboard. And for efficiency and multifunctionality(!), it's much more
sensible to develop a trackpad than a mouse from Apple, that can
emulate just about any input device.
Oh, I sent feedback about the iPod's lack and repeated it in the
newsgroup, which developed a thread that expanded on my wants and
wishes from it:
It should even bring a new market for the iPod.

AMD versus Intel is a mixed bag. Both make fine processors, and have
different strengths and weaknesses, for example Intel ones are
generally better at image decompression and reading memory blocks,
while AMD has much better floating point performance etc...

The clunky one-button mouse is one of the stupidest products ever
devised.
Once you've used a normal mouse, you won't want to go back.
I couldn't be bothered reading any of these threads, but I will say
this:
Apple should go into the mp3 player business fulltime, and leave
computers to those who do it better.

Intel gives computer markers a whole chipset and cpu together in one
package, it's a saving for them, when if you go AMD you need to make a
seperate deal with the chipset makers. This mainly applies to notebooks, the
whole centrino thing is a very good deal for computer markers.
That's a weird opinion.

Linux is a pain in the ***, it makes doing things that should be simple into
a huge google search and study of config files. If OSX is released for
generic PC's, I think it will be a linux killer. |

Actually Intel isn't really that good with interger or floating point
performance. What they are good at is vector performance, important for
things like vidoe encoding. And anyway, I'd argue that interger performance
is of lower importance today, as most tasks a computer does can be done
equally well on 5 year old hardware. It's vector and floating point
performance that still drives demand for more powerful CPU's.
Right, but OSX does have excellent support for all manner of mice, with
support for multiple buttons, scroll wheel and right click context menus.
Apple does a equally good just with computers. But it's hard for them break
into the market in a major way because their computers won't run mostof the
software on the market, a similar reason for why linux market share is tiny
compared to windows. |

Amen. Dig the dual-core Opterons - 32- and 64-bit compatible, x86
compatible, low power consumption, faster throughput, vastly larger
memory bandwidth with controller on-chip... and cheaper than the Intel
competition.

Intel is a fourth to a third worse than AMD in work and waste, at
similar speeds and retail prices. Kill CISC now. Intel is a criminal.
Macs should've always been IBM-AMD mates:

I've used one-button and three-button rolling mouses, the three-button
trackball, the two-button scrolling sliding mouse, and the one-button
trackpad. If you weren't a Weeny, you would know that the MacOS is
made to be faster with one button. But you're clueless about a tool
that does many functions at once. Learn the hold-click, and you'll not
go back.

Where are the reviews? Can they compete with
<http://www.google.com/search?num=100&q=software+OR+programs+%22upgrades+for+life%22+OR+%22free+lifetime+upgrades%22>?
ICs (Intimate Computers, Mac*s, Power*s) can run over 18 OSes,
especially the good ones well. They can also take expansion cards to
use other chipsets and run however many OSes /they/ can, but with fewer
good ones well.

Apple has much better Apps, Linux has neither for the general consumer. |
