My CD-ROM drive has disappeared from my computer...I have been up and
down the help menu (I have Windows XP), venturing through "control
panel," "registry editor" and command prompts, but still can't seem to
figure out the problem...
Sometimes, it re-appears on its own but won't do anything, then
disappears again...
Once, I found it in hidden drives and re-installed drivers...After
re-booting though, no luck...
Any ideas on what's wrong? |

I don't know what that last reply was all about, but what you say is quite impossible.
Don't take it so hard, there are a couple of possiblities:
Open the machine up and find your ROM drive. Pull all of it's plugs out and plug them back in. Not just the drives connections, but trace them to the motherboard. It sounds like a plug is loose.
Windows can't possibly lose a ROM drive that is plugged in. No matter what you've heard about it, it's not that bad...
