I've been running Iomega zip 650 drive for several years in Win 98+ without problems. I use Adaptec (Roxio) ESCD 4. + patches/upgrades, and DirectCD 3. The last week I've been trying to back up, either to CD-R or CD-RW. With CD-R I get through the whole process, and get an error msg. at the end. With CD-RW I get stuck in Format for hours, and have to shut down to get out of it. I guess this is a common problem. I've been to all the websites and downloaded everything recommended. One of the error msgs. I got with CD-R led to SCSI error. I uninstalled and reinstalled my drive. In Control Panel>System>Device Manager>CDROM, it says my drive is working properly. In Control Panel>System>Device Manager>SCSI controllers>Iomega Parallel Port Interface, it says The device is not present, working properly, or does not have all the drivers installed. I've looked tried to install some drivers but they didn't work. I could find anything that said SCSI in My Computer previous to the recent uploads of drivers. I don't understand why everything worked fine a month or so ago, but is toast now, where this SCSI thing went when I didn't delete anything. Also how can I fix it? I downloaded NERO and got error msgs. also. Also it uses a lot of lingo that I don't understand. Can't remember what they were anymore. I've done so many things that my head is spinning.

Now that your head is spinning, I will say goodbye for now.

If the cd-r and cd-rw discs are the types and brands you had no trouble
before, the drive may have reached its end. Try cleaning the drive.

According to this, they are not the same:
http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=3bcad541.396555@news.ne.mediaone.net

Here's a success story w/ cleaner brand name given:
http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=kDON7.4670.333504@news11-gui.server.ntli.net

(Warn you, however, that there was a report cd cleaner damaged a working
burner.)
