Eizo has gained quite a reputation for quality in the past few years.
Now it seems they just sneaked out a new monitor the Flexscan L557.

It looks like its an improved L565.

Better contrast ratio and 25ms response time....

Should I go with this (for movies, fun, and games but nothing too
serious) or should I go with a 20 ms response time monitor? Does it
really make that much of a difference?

Electronics and design (height adjustment) are improved
but the panel is not better.
The real L565 evolution is L567.

Don't care about paper specs.
L557 25ms MVA panel can be better with office applications
(slightly faster with text scrolling).
But the superb L565/7 S-IPS 35ms Hitachi panel is better for
anything other because the softer ghosting.

Until now....... no 16/20ms 17'' LCDs can beat its viewing angle,
color reproduction and professional grade regulations.

Someone will tell you 25ms is much faster than 35ms
because 35 - 25 = 10.

According to that page the most important parameter is the white to black

transition time. My 16ms NEC 1760 manages that in 4ms and sure enough fast
moving images and games look perfect. Where it leaves a bit to be desired is
the colour accuracy and its variation with vertical viewing angle. Overall I
still regard it as the best 17" LCD monitor on the market both aesthetically
and technically. However, I would love one with a 16:9 aspect ratio for
digital TV. The Samsung 172W is just too slow in comparison.

b/w transition is taken as reference,
but all colors are important to have smooth animations.

1760nx has 16ms AUO panel.
I'm sure is very nice (I've seen the Acer AL732 with same panel) but
they have had to do some compromise to obtain speed.
On the contrary, Eizo L565 is not a speed champion with
no-compromise quality.

I hope next year we can see LCDs with both high speed and quality... :-\

I would say that L565 has high-quality image and not high speed.
In the case of Eizo this can't be called a compromise.

I prefer to have smearing than color reduction. ;-)

But L567 is features rich (except pivot).

Hyundai make and use a 20ms 17'' panel.
I don't like reviews..........
but Tom's Hardware say it look faster than 16ms Acer.

Also the new Acer AL1731 have 20ms.

I've never noticed that on mine. But then I mostly play BF1942 & C&C
Generals etc so maybe their images don't move fast enough....
