|
|
This is a follow up to my last post which inquired about using a KVM
switch to share a single monitor between my PC and an Ultra 5. The Ultra5
has a VGA connector so sharing a single monitor is possible but the
keyboard/mouse isn't due to the incompatabilities. This isn't a problem
for me and apparently the responses I received indicated that this is how
it's typically been done.
The issue is every KVM I see depends on a hotkey or such to switch
between the two systems. If I can't plug the keyboard from the Ultra in,
this seems destined to fail. Curious to know how other people managed to
get this to work. My assumption here is the KVM type switches employed
used a physical switch on the KVM and did not depend on a keystroke to
switch between the two systems. Comments anyone? |

You can get a KVM from Network Technologies (http://www.networktechinc.com/)
that lets you plug a Sun keyboard into the KVM, and then connect the KVM to
both the Sun and the PC. Keycode translations are done as needed. The same
KVM allows the same monitor to be shared as well, in a similar fashion. The
switching can be done with either a button on the KVM or a keyboard sequence;
both keyboard and monitor are switched in tandem.
Call the company for details rather than just ordering from their web site,
to make sure you have all the cable numbers, genders, adapters, and other
details right for your setup. Their catalog doesn't make it real clear.
