I'm getting very sluggish performance when using X and other applications on
a Sun Blade 1000, i'm thinking about loading FreeBSD 5.2 sparc I was reading
the hardware release notes and it stated that the SB1000 isnt offiically
support but should work with minor modifications anyone can confirm this ?
or know any gotchas I should look out for.

Thanks.

You're kidding, right? Sun hardware is happiest running Solaris.

Solaris 8 the proc is 750Mhz with 512mb of ram the really annoying issue i'm
having is the slow responsiveness I get, its funny on my 1GHZ intel with
256mb of ram it actually seems hell of alot faster for some reason the only
thing I use this machine for is Web browser, programming and remote
administration of servers. I really hate the way everything is so slow
sluggish.

There's not enough info here to say what the problem is. First, slow is
very subjective; no doubt you're experiencing it, but without more
specifics it's not measurable, let alone diagnose-able. For instance,
what OS is the intel box running, and what's its load by comparison?
Not to mention more info on what the blade is doing, i.e.

(prstat 5 1;vmstat;psrinfo -v;/usr/platform/`uname
-m`/sbin/prtdiag;sar -A 5;iostat -xnp;iostat -E;nscd -g;cat /etc/nsswitch.conf) >file

and if SDS or VxVM are in use, metastat and/or vxprint (IIRC) output as
well.

Probably someone else can think of a number of other commands to run as
well; that's just what occurs to me off the top of my head.

A bit more information will help. You should be able to get your
system to perform fine for web browsing and much more.

What kernel patch level are you at? (i.e. 108528-??)
What windowing system are you using?
What browser are you using? (please include the version)
What video card do you have installed?
Is the system swapping?
