I recently purchased a USB to SVGA adapter from Tritton (www.trittontechnologies.com). This little gadget lets me extend, mirror, or use a secondary monitor for my desktop or laptop. With my laptop (don't know about all others) I can actually get three screens. While the device isn't great for playind full motion video or playing games, it's very handy to use to leave your email client open in one window, and the internet in another, or play your video game on your primary screen and leave your internet window or whatever on the secondary, SEE2.
The installation was a whiz, and I was up and running in five minutes with it. The only downside is that it requires USB 2.0, so for my older laptop I had to buy a PC Card that was USB 2.0. I think it has something to do with the higher bandwidth of USB 2.0, logically.
I always heard about dual-display video cards, but there are some problems if you don't want to spend the money on one, or add a second video card. Some video card manufacturers won't let a second one work, some won't work with a mix of AGP and PCI, and then you have the whole IRQ and hardware conflicts. The Tritton SEE2 doesn't have this problem, which makes it even greater for those afraid to open their computer up and deal with all the hardware conflicts. And it makes it greater if you use it for your laptop.
It's Windows 2000 and XP compatible only. MSRP for $99, but I found mine for $79 online. A Mac version is supposed to be released later this year.
I also own their Simple NAS, which I found to work pretty well for me. |
