Hi,
I have a Krypton 56x CDROM drive. I burned a MoserBaer CD (52x
recordable) at 48X with another CDwriter. The CD works fine on other
computers. But when I insert the CD in my cdrom drive and start
Explorer, the explorer shows the contents of the CD alright. But thats
it. It just becomes unresponsive then. DOesn't register clicks or
anything. Ok, so I start cmd.exe (Windows 2000) and navigate to my cd
drive. I can go into the directories and see all the files listed with
the dir command. But I cannot copy anything to my hard disk. The light
in the cd just keeps coming on and off but there is nothing happening.
I finally eject the CD by pushing the button on the drive and suddenly
explorer and cmd.exe start working and OS gives that crappy message "No
cd found in drive, cancel, abort, retry".
Why is this happening? Could it be that this CDROM cannot read cDs
burned at 48x? There are several CDs that have worked on this drive
also. Like the bluetooth driver that I installed, the CD worked just
fine.

(Burn slow, like 16x.)
Maybe the Krypton needs cleaning? Get CD-DVD Speed and have it ScanDisc
the cd in the drive that reads it without problem and in the Krypton.
You don't want any red squares show up and preferably no yellow squares
either.

The CD DVD speed scandisc software gives green yellow and very few red
squares also :-(
Why does this happen? Is it because of the speed at which the CD was
burnt?

You don't want any red squares at all (except the one at the end of
multisession burn). And good burns shouldn't have any yellow squares.

It's a combination of things. MoserBaer is not a quality brand; Low-
and high-end burn speeds tend to make lesser quality burns than 16x/24x;
the burner may not be making good burns; some drives handle errors
better than others.
(Taiyo Yuden is known as quality brand and you can get them at
www.meritline.com.)
