Hello,

I'm wanting to upgrade my BIOS and have quite an older version. My motherboard chipset is 6ATA-2 and I need to connect to the chaintech website. I did a search and noticed that their current website does not support this board anymore but they had a former website. Although no link was provided through the forum post, I found it off of the main site. When I click on this link though, it will bring up 3 buttons for Mainboard BIOS, Drivers and another for support. All the button/links work except for Mainboard BIOS. If I click on this, it gives me a "Page Not Found". I need to update my BIOS and then I wish to install Win XP. The reason for the update is because my current version does not allow for the ability to enable the USB ports in order for me to set up my wireless usb adapter.

Any help or link to this download would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

J-MAN

I still had no luck. I contacted eSupport who provides BIOS upgrades for $59.95 USD. I contacted them and initial contact was good but a fellow in their support division recommended I try to go through Chaintech instead. I found a link to their former website for BIOS updates regarding older motherboards no longer listed on their site and unfortunately, the link is now dead once you get part way through the navigation process.

I phoned back eSupport and they said they tend to shy away from the older boards and said they required more information. I stated they had all the required details because I ran their automated agent but then insisted that they wanted additional information. I told them to provide me the details required, I would look up the information and contact them back. They were extremely rude to me at this point and said that if I can take their time by phoning in, I can take some of my time with them on the line to complete the tasks they ask me. I was understanding and actually appreciative since most companies would most likely tell you to call back after you've completed the list of tasks they gave you. I just didn't appreciate their tone and then statement that the $59.95 would guarantee delivery of the BIOS bin file to my email but there's no guarantees it will work.

The pitfall here is if you flash your system with the wrong BIOS, you can do damage which is not reversable. Here's an email I sent off to the support division of Chaintech:

Hello,

I was provided an older computer system for basic word processing and internet surfing. This is an older system with one of your motherboards no longer listed on www.chaintech.com.tw under the "United States" section. I require a BIOS upgrade to enable USB support and you don't list the motherboard BIOS updates for my specific model on your current download section. I connected to your former website: http://www.chaintech.com.tw:8008/Downloads/index.htm but unfortunately when I click on the "Mainboard BIOS" link (button) the page is no longer active.

It's imparative that I get a BIOS update for this system. This will allow me to use my Wireless "G" Adapter to sync with my main system for internet connectivity. As we all know, when working with the BIOS, you must be extremely cautious and flash the system with the proper BIOS file (bin file) otherwise you risk extensive physical hardware damage you're unable to repair.

I was going to fill out your support form but to my dismay, there are required fields that must be entered and I don't know the specific information to supply correct details.

If someone could please contact me, I would appreciate this. I was told the motherboard model number was: 6ATA-2

The BIOS ID String upon boot-up is as follows:

10/19/1999-693-686-2A6LGC39C-00

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Doing a Google search provided me with a company called eSupport which could customize a BIOS file for me but unfortunately they stated for that specific motherboard, they would tend to "shy-away" from this and recommended I go through your organization!

I look forward to your expedited response!

Best regards,

J-Man

Hopefully I get a response soon! If anyone could help with additional information or a link to a FREE BIOS Update, I would appreciate this.

THANKS AGAIN!

Hey, J-man, I saw your request just now, because I faced the very same problem myself.

You are right, the download from Chaintech's old site won't work for 6ata2 bios.

See if this link can help you (if you still need the bios, that is...):

ftp.usn.ru/pub/Bios/mb/Chaintech/6ATA2/6ata2c04.exe

All the best!
